1. Optimize Your Workout by Staying Hydrated
Did you know that 46% of exercisers are likely to go to the gym dehydrated? This is according to a study published in 2006 in Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism. Dehydration reduces aerobic endurance and can result in increased body temperature, increased heart rate, disorientation, and even physical collapse.

2. Eat a Light Meal Before Your Workout
Eating a large meal prior to a workout may leave you feeling sluggish or with cramps because your muscles and digestive system are competing for energy sources. On the other hand, not eating can cause low blood sugar levels leaving you feeling weak or faint.

3. Replace Protein After a Workout
Have you ever strayed from an exercise regimen because you did not recover quickly enough from a workout? Most of us have. But you can enhance recovery by replenishing your body with protein and carbohydrates immediately after a workout to replenish glycogen stores that are depleted during exercise.

4. Keep your Joints Healthy
Getting that last mile in, struggling for that last weight-lifting rep, or playing that extra set of tennis can be tough on joints. Joints, the junction where one bone meets the other, are protected by cartilage, a resilient shock absorber. Joint health can be affected by many factors, including exercise and simple day-to-day activities.

5. Daily Nutrition is Key to Every Workout

Athletes need to make sure that their bodies are in top form and that means getting important vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients every single day. For example, antioxidants are critical to prevent free radical damage caused by increased oxygen utilization during exercise and the B vitamins convert the food you eat into fuel for working muscles.

The Green Movement

Don ‘t be misled by all of the companies suddenly becoming “green”.  One company is saying they are green because they are using methane gas produced by a landfill to power their manufacturing plant to continue producing toxic cleaning products.  Others are claiming plant based “green” cleaning products but still contain toxic chemicals.  So how are you to find truly “green” cleaning products in your home, and who do you trust??  Their are companies who are producing truly green cleaning products.  One such company has been around for more than 50 years and have been producing environmentally friendly “green” cleaning products since the mid 60’s.  You can have a truly safe home.

6 Tips For Finding “SAFE” Nutritional Supplements

Who has the responsibility for ensuring that a dietary supplement is safe? By law (DSHEA), the manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that its dietary supplement products are safe before they are marketed. Unlike drug products that must be proven safe and effective for their intended use before marketing, there are no provisions in the law for FDA to “approve” dietary supplements for safety or effectiveness before they reach the consumer. Also unlike drug products, manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements are not currently required by law to record, investigate or forward to FDA any reports they receive of injuries or illnesses that may be related to the use of their products. Under DSHEA, once the product is marketed, FDA has the responsibility for showing that a dietary supplement is “unsafe,” before it can take action to restrict the product’s use or removal from the marketplace. – Source: Excerpted from Overview of Dietary Supplements January 2001

How many times have we seen a great new supplement or product swarm the market place just to find out that just a few years later it’s killing people?  So how do we know if a product is safe and effective?

6 tips for finding a safe and effective Nutritional Supplements.

1.         Natural Sources

All over the world there are fine ingredients from nature. But just as important as what is put in your product is what is kept out. Your product should be free of preservatives, artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, or any other artificial things that don’t belong there.

2.         Purity Testing

The absolute purity of your ingredients is a must. No ifs, ands, or buts. Just for example, new botanical ingredients should go through extensive third-party testing for purity, including testing potential contaminants.

3.         Proven Potency and Clinical Performance

What you read on the label should be what’s in the bottle. Supplements should contain precise amounts of active phytonutrients for the most health benefits. But don’t just take their word for it. Look for published studies in peer-reviewed scientific journals that show exactly that.

4.         State-Of-the-Art Manufacturing

The way your products are made is just as important as what is put into them. Cutting edge production facilities and patented processes are designed for the highest quality possible. And just to be sure, there should be extensive quality control tests each year.

5.         Demonstrated Benefits

Look for companies that support athletes not paid endorsements. Look for stability and how long the company has been around. Also, look for a large consumer base who use the products in their everyday lives to achieve great things.

6.         Guaranteed Satisfaction

Make sure they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If for any reason, you aren’t totally satisfied with something you get you should be able to get a full refund easily.

What Interferon is and How it Works

Our immune system serves our bodies as a safeguard from infections. A wonderfully intricate and multi-faceted system, designed to protect us from likely invaders, including viruses, bacteria, and allergens. Our immune system can also recognize perilous changes in your cells and wipe out these potential pre-cancerous cells. Part of this defense includes the manufacture of interferon.

Interferon is triggered by the immune system when a virus attacks a cell. Interferon serves two central functions. First it signals bordering cells and triggers their resistance mechanisms; secondly it activates other immune cells that kill invading pathogens. Interferon is crucial to the immune system and helps defend us from the daily exposure to millions of microorganisms that can lead to severe infections.

Our world today is filled with challenges that can weaken immune function and reduce the body’s ability to defend you.

Dr. Kojima discovered interferon and its vital role in building the body’s immune response in 1954. While working under Yasuichi Nagano, Yasuhiko Kojima discovered interferon, a substance the immune system produces to facilitate protection from harmful invaders.

During his studies, Dr. Kojima observed that a destabilized immune system produces a reduced amount of interferon. Armed with the understanding that the world around us poses a rising threat to our health and that our immune systems are often compromised by deprived nutrition, stress, fatigue, and the environment. He devoted himself to finding a way to enhance the body’s capacity to make its own interferon.

When asked how to sustain a strong immune system, Dr. Kojima replied;

“A variety of factors, including genetics, aging, the environment, lifestyle habits, and stress can impact your immune system. Maintaining an ordered lifestyle with a balanced diet, plenty of rest and appropriate exercise, the rapid elimination of free radicals, and a good living environment are key.”

Consistency

@ 2:50 pm

I am personally convinced through experience that one of the most important aspect of food supplement usage is consistency.  Hit and miss consumption of food supplements is not very effective.  A practice of consuming the same food supplements every day utilizing the same amount works best.  Ignore the fads and stay with the tried and true such as a multi-vitamin, vitamin C, B vitamins, vitamin E, flavonoids, carotenoids, etc.  That is what I have found works the very best.
