“Eating fat turns on a particular pleasure pathway in mice that encourages the rodents to eat even more fat in a self-reinforcing pattern that could lead to obesity, researchers report. Fat digestion in the small intestines of mice triggered endocannabinoids, chemicals that coordinate the sensations of hunger and reward in the brain. Protein and carbohydrates, though, failed to elicit the same response. The authors speculate that if medication were developed to shut down the endocannabinoid system in the gut, it could help people stop eating too much fat food.” Source: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, July 4-8, 2011
